flying to cape town with mango airlines!

chase and i took off on our own while here in south africa
to do some traveling for a few weeks while my parents
were busy with the mission. we knew we wanted to finally
get to cape town this visit, and i of course looked into EVERY
possible option. you can rent a car and drive, take a train, or
fly there. we were this close to taking the train there since we
are big fans of train travel, but with our limited time we realized
that flying was absolutely the way to go. it meant getting there
in less than 2 hours instead of 2 days, and we definitely needed
all of that time to enjoy and experience the beautiful western cape.
the minute i saw mango airlines i knew i had to fly on this airline.
mangoes are my favorite thing in the world, and this south african
airline stood out to me as affordable, friendly, and convenient.
that’s exactly what it was! we booked such affordable flights
with them and had the most schedule options with multiple
flights daily out of all different johannesburg airports. the
whole experience was seamless and i would say that mango
airlines is the best way to travel all over south africa!
^^ boarding the bright orange plane!
we had a quick flight and before we knew
it, we had touched down in cape town::
we walked straight off the plane to see our airport transfer
ride waiting with airport hopper! it was recommended
to us as a very easy and affordable way to get into the
city quickly from the airport. it felt like having a
personal driver without the crazy cost of one.
you can book far in advance, or short notice!
we pulled up to the queen victoria hotel, a boutique
hotel perched overlooking the V&A waterfront.
we loved so many things about this hotel, but
the best part was definitely the location. it
allows close access to the fun waterfront
while being just far enough away to be peaceful.
it has lovely views, lovely decor, and feels glamorous
from the second you step inside. i love that it’s smaller
and more personal than other luxury hotels, and the
views from the rooms & restaurants were spectacular.
not to mention, the BREAKFAST.
it’s one of the best i’ve ever had at a hotel.
could this spread be any more flawless? ^^
i practically jumped out of bed each morning
to run downstairs for this heavenly breakfast.
i think chase liked it, too! :)
each day we sat in different places for breakfast.
this view from the balcony was a favorite ^^
this hotel is aptly named, as it is truly “fit for a queen!”
it really felt like the perfect place to stay in between our
amazing cape town adventures (which i’m about to share!)
we also made use of the amazing spa on the grounds..
(early christmas present to chase!)
let’s not forget the one other amazing aspect of the hotel:
their new restaurant dash, already ranked in the top 5 in cape town.
fun fact: the restaurant is named after queen victoria’s favorite pet :)
the food is elegant and sophisticated, but doesn’t go too far. we loved it.
chase has quickly become a fan of the
south african cola tonic drink
(like a homemade coke)
you can’t go wrong with the fresh, flavorful
food here. and in south africa it’s so reasonable.
in the evening we used the rest of our city sightseeing
ticket to take a little harbour cruise! it wasn’t quite as
scenic as we thought since it only stayed in the harbour,
but it was still nice to be out on the water at dusk.
i hope this airline, shuttle, and hotel give a few helpful
planning tips for cape town, next i’m sharing the adventures!
