december 2020!

december was full and memorable, in a different way than other years. we started the month leaving utah and heading home (just me, chase, and baby wells first) to come oversee the last parts of the kitchen renovation and start to get things put back together. then the girls came home, driven by my superman dad who spent a week with us here, and we had a very sweet few weeks leading up to christmas in our new home. it was relaxing and fun knowing we were staying here this year, and although it’s a different year with covid we still did some fun outings and things together as we create new traditions in this new place we call home. some highlights from the month..

  • december beach days, i’ll take them all! also bike rides, swim days, and lots of enjoying the amazing “winter” weather here..even better than the bay!
  • hiding jingles the elf every night and seeing the girls SO excited to find him each morning :)
  • lots of takeout and blue bowls while we waited for our kitchen to be all the way back to working condition
  • girls night on zoom with bay friends who i miss so much
  • lido outing to mail santa letters at sugar paper
  • naples island christmas lights with the heaps!
  • outside christmas cookie exchange on our block
  • newport boat parade + kris kringle balboa bars after
  • outside hot cocoa bar with church friends, and a drive through ward christmas party this year
  • doho beach + dana point harbor lights!
  • U games lasting all through december this year…so weird!
  • christmas caroling all through our neighborhood, with chase & rea on the guitar
  • south coast santa, through the looking glass this year but still magical!
  • fashion island tree, rogers gardens decs, and the dunes lights
  • getting my parents here for the holidays! christmas on the beach was the best.
  • wells turning 4 months!

we’ve ended the year on a high note and a hectic note! we made it back to newport the first days of december to be here for the last of our remodel, just me and chase + wells while my parents kept the girls. we got the house back in order and my cute dad drove the girls down to us. we decorated our new home for christmas which was magical, worked on finishing touches, and settled back in. we had some fun beach and bike rides to laguna, dana point, doheny, and CDM. had a much less busy december with covid simplifying things, which was nice in some ways. we still had a few outdoor safe holiday gatherings like a hot cocoa bar with church friends, christmas cookie exchange with our block, and then some virtual gatherings with friends on zoom of course :) and a drive-through ward christmas party this year! we had fun seeing where our elf jingles was hiding each morning and doing some fun christmas things! we loved walking the naples island christmas lights with cousins. started a fun caroling tradition with girls and their guitars, did the newport boat parade + had a fun balboa night with kris kringle bar treats at the end :) the week of christmas was warm enough to go swimming a few mornings, we visited the south coast santa (behind glass ;) saw the fashion island huge amazing tree, had my parents arrive on the 23rd, and had a magical christmas here at home…including christmas afternoon at the beach! the final days of the month (and year) have been low-key, recovering from the holiday hangover and having a few runny noses that we’ve hoped weren’t covid. in some ways sad to see this month end, but also very ready for the fresh start to come with 2021…let’s hope it feels better for all of us!

ending this year on a hectic high note, but fitting for the year it’s been! we made it back to newport during the first few days of december
