Wells T. Rigby – born August 28, 2020 6 lbs 12 oz // 19.5 inches
You are a whole new adventure and I am so so so happy to have a little baby BOY. It feels so fun and different, and I can already tell how special you are – and our bond is! I’ll never forget waking up at 1:00 AM on August 28th and realizing my water had broken. I couldn’t believe it (10 days early!) and I was immediately just so excited knowing that I would meet my little son that same day. I drove to the hospital on my own so that Dad could stay with your sisters until help arrived in the morning, and so I got to start the adventure off just you and I! Labor built up slowly, and honestly probably the worst part of it all was the COVID-19 test that things started off with – but I’ll always remember your very unique birth year because of that! Luckily the test was negative, I got all checked in and they confirmed my water had broken, and it was time to get things going slowly but surely! Luckily it was a slow build the rest of the early morning hours, and then contractions finally began in the morning as Dad arrived! We got to hang out for a few hours, laugh, relax, and soak up the special feeling and anticipation before a new life joins the world…and our family! When it became go time, things moved so fast and so smoothly. It was just a few minutes of pushing, and we even had to wait for my doctor to get there for the grand finale because you were so ready!
The moment you were in my arms I loved you so much (and long before that). You were tiny but strong, and at first you were testing out your lungs and crying but as soon as they put you on my chest you stopped and you were calm and amazing as Dad and I traded holding and cuddling you for the next hour. Ever since you have been so calm and easily comforted, and passed every hospital exam and test just right. We will never take that for granted, and we remember the amazing lessons you taught us early on in this pregnancy when we had some scares and knew we were so lucky to get you and your siblings, the way you come straight from heaven.
I loved seeing Dad with his first son. He will be the best person to have as a father, mentor and best friend through your life. There is no one more fun, smart, kind, loyal, driven, creative, resourceful and amazing. I hope you are just like him. He is so proud of you already and keeps combing your hair into place ;) ..his favorite thing to do to himself too haha. He will be your biggest fan and supporter and help you get wherever you want to go in life. I will too!!!
I hope you know how very very LOVED you are…not just by your mom and dad, but by two very proud big sisters. You could not be luckier to be getting each of them as siblings and pals, and they are so lucky to be getting you. You just need to look at the photos of the night they met you when we brought you home, and their faces say it all! Ever since meeting you they have been so sweet and thrilled to have Baby Wells at home. We are all so much happier and they are helpful and so interested in seeing you sleep, wake, stretch, eat, and grow! They check on your “owies” (your belly button where the umbilical cord was cut – and your foot where they did a heel prick and have a band-aid on it). They will be your best advocates, teachers and friends. I can’t wait to see the relationship you have with each of them on their own and together. You remind me a lot of how Claire looked, but in a definite handsome boy way – so it will be fun to see who you resemble most!
We took you home just a little over 24 hours after you were born, and your sisters and Papa & Yaya gave you the sweetest welcome at our house. It is so special to have just moved to a new home in a new place with now a NEW baby. It all feels so right and so special and we are excited to start this new chapter with you. Thanks for making this time even sweeter and more special! I love you so so so so much baby Wells. xoxoxo your mom
..that was my little note to wells highlighting his birth story. i still can’t believe he is here, or how much we love him. here are a few photos throughout his pregnancy and first weeks..!!
I had to share this womb story at the end, I read it while in labor and thought it was such a cool thought..
In a mother’s womb there were two babies. One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after delivery?”
The other replied, “Why of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what will be later.”
“Nonsense,” said the other. “There is no life after delivery. What would that life be?”
“I don’t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat with our mouths.”
The other said, “This is absurd! Walking is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous. The umbilical cord supplies nutrition. Life after delivery is to be excluded. The umbilical cord is too short.”
“I think there is something and maybe it’s different than it is here.”
The other replied, “No one has ever come back from there. Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery it is nothing but darkness and anxiety and it takes us nowhere.”
“Well, I don’t know,” said the other, “but certainly we will see mother and she will take care of us.” “Mother?! You believe in mother? Where is she now?”
“She is all around us. It is in her that we live. Without her, there would not be this world.”
“I don’t see her, so it’s only logical that she doesn’t exist.”
“To which the other baby replied, “Sometimes when you’re in silence, you can hear her, you can perceive her. I believe there is reality after delivery and we are here to prepare ourselves for that reality.”
