february in amsterdam
it’s the last day of february???
thank goodness it’s leap year and we get the extra day today,
or this month would have been over before i even realized.
january was slow, so i wasn’t expecting february to turn the
tables and zip on by! although fast, it has been a good one.
we started feb. in dublin with some friends, then headed to
scotland where we did edinburgh + the highlands. on valentines
day chase surprised me with a trip to belgium where he had a work
trip the next week, so we did brussels, bruges, ghent & antwerp. we
also shared our baby news (!!!) which was so fun and exciting.
in between all of that we’ve been in amsterdam where it’s warming
up, i’ve started to feel better with nausea going away, we’ve both
been working hard (chase balancing his MBA too), and trying hard
to soak in this city. each weekend we’ve hit a few new museums and
tried a few new restaurants. we’ve spent time with our great new
friends here who we already love and will be sad to leave. i did a food
tour which i’m excited to share, and we took a little dutch day trip.
most exciting of all, this last week we had our 20 week ultrasound
where we found out this little dutch baby is a GIRL. highlight for sure!
we’ve finally settled our plans for what’s next when we leave europe
this spring, so that feels good. in between now & then it will be a bit
crazy, but what else is new? today i leave town for a blog press trip
to the faroe islands and chase goes to denmark for business, so march
will already be starting off with a bang. before it begins though,
here are snippets of feb. life in between all of that. these iphone
pictures are always my favorite details to look back on each month:
dutch day tripping to zaandam ^^ so close to amsterdam!
our new go-to breakfast spot: yoghurt barn! it’s like an amazing
froyo bar, but with actual healthy types of regular yogurt. YUM.
a bakery by our apartment was making pink stroopwafels for valentines! ^^
i love the month of love.
crepe dates ^^
when your neighborhood looks like a watercolor ^^
i snapped this on my early morning run, zero filter. amazing.
give me all of the dutch cheese please! ^^
dusk in amsterdam this time of year is hard to beat ^^
we are becoming such big fans of takeout in amsterdam.
also fans of simple dinners at home ^^
our brussels getaway! ^^
my bff ashley got ENGAGED this month and i could not be happier!
she of course sent the cutest bridesmaid invites ever. her wedding is
at the end of june, so i’ll be about 2 weeks from due date… haha i
am crossing my fingers so hard that it works out to be there!
we had a fun dinner with mike wolfe in town! ^^
it’s always so nice to see people from home over here.^^ we drove through the tiny dutch town of zoetermeer, where our church’s temple is!
and there it is ^^ always a good sight to see, anywhere in the world.
dutch boutiques really have the best style, even how they lay the stores out ^^
^^ le creuset’s new line is my dream. this shop is my kind of heaven.
speaking of dreams, the tiny euro cars like this one on the right is honestly
chase’s dream car. i wish i was kidding! he actually asked if he could ship one home.
we took a fun day trip to haarlem with our cute friends gabby and jordan.
i didn’t realize the story from corrie ten boom’s the hiding place took place
right here in haarlem! i loved that book & need to go re-read it now.
i love grocery shopping in europe… homemade jams + rose lemonade ^^
thank goodness for a solid mexican spot to fulfill our constant cravings.
we are at salsa shop at least weekly…it’s like the dutch chipotle!
^^ pre-finding out the gender :)
^^ museuming, museuming, museuming. i have dragged chase
to so many, and we love the small old canal house ones.
i am putting together a full museum guide of hidden gems!
it’s hard not to snap photos everywhere i’m walking in amsterdam.
especially on blue sky days!
i couldn’t stop craving sushi so finally we went and i basically ate avocado nigiri, and
a stir fry dish. chase got the other things but it completely hit the spot for me!
how much more charming can it get than lit up canal bridges? ^^
another solid mexican joint: rose’s cantina.
oh my goodness, still thinking about the enchiladas!
facetiming my parents is the best. we easily spend an hour
every time without even realizing it! it makes them feel less far away.
prettiest homes, and new favorite burger spot ^^
^^ if you look closely, the home on the left is dated from 1680.
button doors on a sewing shop, and plums from south africa! ^^
i had to snap a picture to send to my parents of course :)
ha, i wish you could hear me trying to sing hymns in dutch at church..
luckily this place on the right is the same in any language!
we also got called as primary teachers at our church for the next
months that we are here…it is the best. the little kids are so sweet
and so funny, and we may or may not bribe them with treats.
(i may have eaten ate all the pink ones while planning the lesson, oops!)
half of the kids speak dutch only, so we have a little 5 year old in the class
who translates for us! haha, it is the best and funniest experience each week.
just got some of the cutest french maternity clothes i can’t wait to wear,
and also discovered one of the best candle scents: sea peony. ^^
rain & shine in amsterdam ^^ (sometimes all within an hour!)
my lunches while working from home on a good day ^^
^^ …and, my lunches while working from home on a lazy day ;)
^^ buying some mini clogs to hang in baby’s nursery!
soaking up the quick flights around europe while we live right here.
now i have a real excuse for chase to carry my bag ^^
spring is coming!!
