thanksgiving in south africa

a little bit late, but here’s our THANKSGIVING 2015!
it was a pretty unique one spent in south africa with my parents.
chase arrived thanksgiving morning (i had come a few weeks
early to surprise my mom…) so it was the best to reunite with
chase and be all together! chase hadn’t seen my parents for
a year and a half since they left, so we have had the best time.
above is our selfie at the airport when we picked him up! ^^
my mom had woken up extra early on thanksgiving to
make her famous sweet rolls and we brought them to
the airport. they are chase’s favorite (and everyone’s
favorite, really!) so it was a good way to start the day.
we went back and relaxed/ cooked at my parent’s
mission home prepping for the feast that night!
my mom had made it so cute and we could not
wait for a home cooked familiar thanksgiving
after our past few months halfway across the world.
family can make you feel at home anywhere…even africa!
^^ our cute friend chelsea came to visit a week before thanksgiving
and brought ALL of the williams- sonoma/ TJ goods to help it
taste like true thanksgiving (you can’t find these things here!)
my mom’s famous rolls! ^^
stuffing is my favorite part (along with cranberry sauce..)
so i was in charge of it. i made THIS recipe and it was amazing!
and, the pretty turkey! it was surprisingly tricky to track
down here in south africa, but my mom found the best one!
my parents invited some of their best friends here
in south africa: the de kocks! we love them and
it was fun to introduce them to thanksgiving.
i asked chase to take a thanksgiving picture with me
and he grabbed this random cheetah my mom bought…
haha so i guess he represents our african thanksgiving!
i was also in charge of pies (the other best part :)
so i made our FAVORITE blackberry apple pie
from our bestie tammi, and a classic pumpkin pie.
late at night after dinner we talked with all of our families
and missed them so much! their thanksgiving days were
just getting started back in the states, so we got to
chat and get a dose of family before going to bed.
my mom and i can’t get enough of little lydia’s smile! ^^
chase and cute parker chatting ^^
chase’s family went to jackson hole this year for
thanksgiving, so we were missing them lots!
kisses for maddie mae in virginia! ^^
last year we were in india over thanksgiving, and this
year south africa…not too traditional! one day we
will live normal lives, but for now we love it :)
we headed straight off on a safari the day after thanksgiving,
so the african adventures began right away… with leftover
thanksgiving turkey sandwiches for the car ride (the BEST!)
