going back in time in berkeley

for our weekend in berkeley, we crossed the bridge and also crossed back in time
by staying at the charming, historic berkeley city club hotel. it was one of the most
distinctive places we’ve stayed. you can feel the history in the walls and in every
room. it was originally established as a women’s social club, and to this day it is a
club you can join … a gorgeous venue for events, dining, … and, a lovely hotel!
it’s part of the historic hotels of america, an organization we learned about on this
visit. i think it’s safe to say that chase will now want to visit every one of these historic
hotels in our lifetime. there is so much character, charm, and it’s a fun experience
to stay in a special and significant place. our window + view felt like europe! ^^
you enter the front door to tall, white beautiful ceilings and stone hallways.
…and when we opened our door i gasped at the classically done, historic rooms
and curtains with sweeping views of berkeley and the bay — and san francisco.
it felt a little like living in downton abbey era! :) it really feels like a special and
different place to stay. the style of the time period has been preserved so well.
everything here has the classiest touches. nothing is overlooked.
how about that view out of our window? i spy san francisco through the pretty sunset
on the left, and the best part – the golden gate bridge too to the right! i must say,
the east bay has a pretty great vantage point on all of the amazing views in the area.
the complimentary breakfast can be enjoyed in one of the many
sitting rooms. i was so happy they had my favorite natural south african tea!
this old-fashioned setting made us want to slow down and disconnect.
we need to do that more — unplug and just enjoy! scrabble helps :)
i think the best part of the berkeley city club has to be the pool.
you won’t be surprised to learn that it was designed by the same
architect as the hearst castle pool . . . that’s why it is so elegant and
beautiful! we loved having an afternoon swim here – swim caps at all!
{it’s super traditional so swim caps are required and available here!}
and a little bit more gazing out the windows across berkeley & the bay.
we loved staying at our first historic hotel of america..
and hope to come across more in our future!
it’s crazy that a short BART ride across the bay could transport us
back in time to a slow-paced getaway so close to home.
starting at $165 per night, the berkeley city club is a treat, but
can beat the prices of most hotels in san francisco for those
who may want to stay across the bay in a more unique place and
take the train across the bay! the east bay has so much to offer.
wander around berkeley with us here, and watch for my
favorite east bay hike + food restaurant coming this week!
this post is in partnership with berkeley city club.
all opinions remain our own!
