A weekend road trip through Sonoma with the Hammels was just what we needed!
One of our best friends out here in the Bay hails from the tiny
charming town of Sebastopol in Sonoma County, and we have
been wanting to visit with her for a long time! We finally made
it over Memorial Day weekend and it was so nice to have a
local tour guide…no planning required, but all the best spots!
Lucky for any Bay Area people reading, I can share our stops
so you can visit too — because trust me, you’ll want to!
The countryside through Sonoma county is what my dreams are made of.
We stopped off in Occidental on our way in for the yummiest
brunch and to explore the cutest (tiniest) town.
If you ever pass through Occidental, make it your mission to stop at Howard’s
and order the classic eggs benedict. One of the best I’ve ever had! Everything
looked amazing though — it would be hard to go wrong with an order here.
Also order the Maca smoothie, or any of their smoothies.
They are unique and so tasty, as you can tell by this tiny fan!
We strolled the rest of the town (took 5 minutes :)
Then we sat on the back patio of Union Café right down the street and
had “breakfast dessert” because we needed to try one of their famous
raspberry apricot turnovers! So so good. Highly recommended.
On the way from Occidental –> to Sebastopol we stopped at this cute
little cheese shop in the middle of nowhere to sample cheese and have
a buckewheat crepe with ham & cheese (still dreaming about it!!!)
Just down the road from this cheese shop was something even better…
the BEST bread bakery ever! (And that name??? Perfection!) We also
sampled lots of their i n c r e d i b l e sourdough breads here and picked
up a loaf to take to the park with cheese later. It was incredible. And yes,
this day was VERY MUCH centered around food…the best days are :)
The menu…it gave me lots of ideas for our bread we make at home!
We would have never known about this heavenly bread without Tam!
Charm galore in this rustic, beautiful area.
Can you believe our friend GREW UP here?
After seeing the house our friend grew up in and stopping at the park,
we finally made it into downtown Sebastopol to stroll (and eat) some more.
Stopped into Sebastopol Cookie Co., the cutest.
Window selfie strolling town with these friends we love!
We spent almost an hour in Copperfield’s Books, the bookstore downtown.
Love road tripping with these California cuties!
While there we had to check out the Barlow, a new trendy little
spot with distilleries and restaurants in old warehouses.
It reminded me of Oxbow Market in Napa!
Prettiest shops ^^
And the final food stop of the day…can you believe how much we ate?!
But we had to eat at our friend’s favorite ice cream shop!
Loved our getaway and we will definitely be back up here soon.
This sweetheart didn’t look like this for all of the road trip,
but when she did it made it all worth the long drive :)
