spring is on the way!! amsterdam has had a few little dips back to
cold weather, but the past few weeks it has come alive with sunshine,
café terraces opening along the canals, and tulips… all of the tulips. i’m
afraid the rest of march is going to fly by, so documenting a few snippets
here while it’s still hanging around! so far this month we’ve been reacquainted
with sunshine, done some spring cleaning of our apartment, (getting ready to leave
it!!) each had some solo travels, wrapped up work, and enjoyed this time before it
becomes absolutely crazy leading up to our move home in may. hold on to your hats!
after walking by this store 100 times down the street from us and eyeing
the perfect blue raincoat, one day last week i decided it was time. it was
a rare splurge for me but it will forever be my amsterdam jacket!
amsterdam wins at the flower / plant game. every table,
every doorstop, every sidewalk is lined with blooms.
i know, i knowww…avocado toast is so cliché. but it is for a reason,
especially when you find the best version ever on amazing dutch
bread at our favorite spot: nacional. they had acai bowls too! we
felt like we were basically right back in california at that breakfast.
still at it with the pink tulips … i think we will be forever :)
scenes from the neighborhood ^^what’s that? ^^ sunshine + blue skies?
(not pictured: me taking my coat off for the first time in months :)
we’re trying to host a few more dinner parties while we are here with cute
friends we love..and while we still have a dining room table this size! :)
chase’s very casual photo that he sent from his business trip in belgium ^^
first, how is this place real, and how have we never heard of it? second, i don’t
understand who has a business trip somewhere like this?? he will miss this project!
also, this is the picture he sent me from his trip last week.
the thought of him walking through the airport and shopping for
baby girl clothes on his business trip kills me a little bit with cuteness.i couldn’t complain too much, because my “business trip” that same week was to the
faroe islands for a writing assignment. i fell a little bit in love & you can read about it here.
on our weekends home, i have been making chase attend pretty much every
museum with me. we have a museum card into basically all of the museums
here in holland, so we’re trying to use it up and see them before we leave!
pictured above is rembrandt’s famous the night watch inside of the rijksmuseum. ^^
the small bible museum is pretty fascinating to walk through the history
of different versions & translations. they have a lot of original copies ^^
another museum highlight this month was the church at museum our lord in the attic
it’s an old canal house with a secret church hidden in the attic from the time of the
reformation when catholic churches weren’t allowed. these people would worship
in this gorgeous chapel so as not to get caught. it is a powerful place to visit!
the views from the attic church weren’t too bad either ^^
it’s rare to get a good view over amsterdam because there
aren’t many tall buildings, so a good view is always fun to find.weekend pancakes, please! ^^ we found some rare american style ones.also, how pretty is this pumpkin soup at cafe de bieb?
i saw this picture online and i need every single thing in this exact color, now!
^^ proof that spring is on the way, with easter around the corner!
more signs of spring ^^for a little date night we branched out and tried lebanese food (AMAZING)
and went to the fanciest movie theatre with our friends. zootopia is so good – haha!
that seriously is the movie theatre ^^
chase showed me this cool spot where the canal houses go all the way
down to the water, without a platform in between. i don’t understand! ^^ more museuming ^^ we usually make it an after-church activity,
so chase is always dressed up & looking dapper in them.
sidewalk plants matching our dinner ^^ hehe!
the yummiest + freshest italian at spaghetteria pastabar in amst.
after living among these fjällräven kånken scandinavian backpacks here in
northern europe (literally EVERY person has one here, i swear)…we have
to pick a mini one out for our little one on the way. help me with the color!!
favorite discovery of the month = BEST dutch apple pie at cafe papeneilad
truly life-changing, and i’m not even a huge apple pie fan. this one is special!
found this boy his favorite thing ^^ horchata + mexican food at rose’s.i wandered into the most perfect vintage dish shop and wanted it all ^^
whoops ^^chase lived in amsterdam by himself for a month last fall when i was
already in south africa, and rented from the sweetest lady and her son.
i finally got to meet them this month, and maya cooked us a georgian
feast since she’s originally from there! between this meal, lebanese, and
indonesian, amsterdam has definitely helped us branch our palates out. three cheers for alan, one of our great friends in amsterdam who
introduced us to the best restaurant in the city! really though,
bakers & roasters >>> we are going as much as we can before leaving.
i had a much-needed facial at the nicest place: BLUSH beauty.
i’ve become so bad at taking care of my skin with all of the travel and
cold weather these past few months, so i hope this is my reset button!
^^ london layovers always = PRETmost recently, i’ve been in RUSSIA (flying home today) and
cannot wait to share this crazy adventure later in the week.i’m sure march will keep marching on by, but we’re going to savor every second!
