Easter at Keukenhof Tulip Festival

Our Easter weekend was spent at Keukenhof Tulip Festival … something that has been
on my bucket list forever, and felt so springy on this holiday weekend. It just barely
opened last week so it was early in the blooms, but with our travels the next weeks
it was the best time to do it – plus some of our very best friends were in town
visiting from California, so we all went together! It was beyond lovely & beautiful.
You can see from that sliver of blue sky that we had a little bit of winter + spring
weather all mixed into one day. The sun would come out and shine so warmly, and
20 minutes later the clouds would cover and make it freeeeeezing! If you plan a
visit around this it’s probably ideal to go about one month later (at the end
of April / beginning of May) but we just felt lucky to be able to go at all!
Plus, we somehow lucked out with no rain while there, until the second
we boarded the bus back to Amsterdam when it started downpouring!
We scoped out the entire area + gardens and covered it all by the end!
There were some indoor exhibitions we could pop into when the clouds came,
then we’d continue strolling the grounds when the blue sky showed up again :)
Always good to remember to stop & smell the {tulips} :) ^^
Also– the variations of tulips are so dreamy. Some are hybrids like
these, which opened up to look like a cross between peonies + tulips.
Though not everything was in full bloom quite yet, the little pops of
spring made me so excited for this new season and all it will bring ^^
I was just a little excited that my jacket matched these orange tulips! ^^
The main gardens and highlight is the tulips, but I loved all of the
other flowers mixed in. Daffodils & hyacinths were perfect additions.
The tulip crew! ^^
^^ The girls + the daffodils
We strolled through these pretty gardens and kept joking that the theme
of the day was “seeing potential.” Though we did get to see a lot of pretty
blooms, we also had to imagine a lot that were yet to blossom! Our friend
Dusty kept giving inspirational speeches about imagining the potential..haha.
Flowers in the form of Dutch canal houses ^^
Inside one of the buildings they had different arrangements and tulip
hybrids from floral shops all through Holland. So so beautiful!
Some got very unique! ^^
We stopped into one of the cafés for yummy bread, baked potatoes,
frites, cheese rolls, and cookies. Quite the nutritious meal :)
Again with seeing that potential! ^^
♥ these cuties ^^
Loved that there was a little petting farm with a bunny – perfect for Easter!
All of the names of the tulip variations were the best…example ^^ “mascara“
Technically it was baby girl’s first Easter…I think she liked spending it at the tulip festival!
I never understood why pregnant girls always held their stomach in
photos, but now I do. It just comes naturally when posing with a bump!
The sun came out once again as we left, making our last loop so gorgeous.
All in all we spent hours here and loved every second!
The famous fields surrounding Keukenhof weren’t quite in full force yet,
but we did see some pops of color on our way into the countryside ^^
We will be back one day with baby girl to visit when it’s in full force!
We took the cute Keukenhof Express bus back to the airport and then back into Amsterdam.
It wasn’t the easiest process and we wished we could have gone direct from the city,
but it was so worth going and the process was smooth even if the ride was long!
We used the gold tickets from our Holland Pass and it incldued the transport ticket too.
We’ve used this mainly for museums while living here, but for anyone visiting and
wanting to do Keukenhof + other major museums, it is very worth it for those!
This was the ideal Holland outing to kick off Spring in our final month here!
