some snippets of amsterdam life lately :: all from my iphone!
it’s been a bit crazy the past few weeks settling in, getting to
know the neighborhood, registering our temporary residences
here, getting broken into, (eeek) meeting new friends, and
mostly soaking up this picturesque & charming city. i’m
about to share lots of fun discoveries here, but here are a
few little updates from the time since we moved in.
please pardon the many many pictures .. & especially all the tulips! :)
european floors >> better than anything
reasons to love amsterdam: fresh tulips on every corner, even in winter!
yay for getting a few new items for our place! ^^
^^ double yay for cheese fondue + flower markets
the way the streets are all decorated kills me! amazing.
just finished this book ^^ loved the entire thing except the end.
what are the chances of this:: i have a 5 year journal where
you answer a question each day and there are 5 years worth..
last month i was going through and saw this answer for which city
i’d like to live in if i could live anywhere … haha be careful what you
wish for, because 2 years later here we are in amsterdam! love it.
^^ my kind of museum
^^ also my kind of museum ;)
well, i love you back! ^^
beauty everywhere you look ^^
sometimes it’s the simplest things in life:
like rooibos tea + toast on a cold morning.
this entire city has the best style ^^
soon i’ll be needing to stock up on a set of dutch blue china.
i’m so obsessed! also obsessed with the way old shops here
have markets outside of them to signify what kind of shop they are.
and once again with the tulips ^^ they will never get old to me.
warm stroopwafels will also never get old to me ..
especially when they are heart-shaped + chocolate covered!
chase’s new office! ^^ he loves being one of the few
americans among all of the dutch googlers :)
we’re officially amsterdam-ers for the next 6 months!
we got our visa and resident cards all set at the expat center.
they even gave us little gift bags full of all things dutch!
they gave this darling little “my first month” book for moving to
amsterdam. we celebrated with some dutch apple pie!
i pinch myself looking out of our apartment windows every time.
i also pinch myself walking the canals right around our place!
my bestie sent me a pic of these candles she picked
up.. both of the places we’ve lived this year! ♥♥
i need a yard so i can buy a million tulip bulbs!
my #1 fave simple healthy meal. SO happy to
have a kitchen and be able to make it again!
i’m full-blown back into cooking and spending more on
groceries here than we probably would eating out.. haha
but i’ve just missed it SO much being on the road since july!
with our furnished kitchen we have enough, but i’m keeping
things simple and finding some good new basic recipes.
lots of museum-ing happening lately.
already buying myself souvenirs even though we’re living
here for 6 months. i love and want everything dutch!
(and we are OBSESSED with dutch grilled cheese sandos)
i went shopping for shower supplies and LOVED that they
had chocolate, vanilla & caramel flavored shower gel. yum!
stroopwafels + hot cocoa on a snowy morning
the city still feels so cheery and festive, even in jan!
the market where i like to grocery shop is a 15 minute walk from
our place, so i bring this guy’s muscles to help me carry bags home.
moving into his new desk! ^^
when your husband goes on a business trips and leaves little notes ^^
freezing runs/walks/bike rides ^^
frites + tulips. 2 very dutch things!
lucky us that amsterdam has amazing italian food!
first time at the gym in months. i was laughing at how
i couldn’t read or understand any of the labels/ controls!
one night we stumbled upon an american food market and had
an absolute heyday with the amazing things they had! haha
american cereal, pringles, bisquik, DP, pop-tarts, gushers…so
many things we’ve forgotten about in the past 7 months. i don’t
know if it made us miss the US, or realize how unhealthy it is! haha
we were ready to buy ALL of the cereal until seeing
it was 10 euro per box..haha! our choices were
mac & cheese and reese’s puffs. embarrassing!
i have been balancing out our meals with some simple
& healthy nights cooking at home. after eating at restaurants
the majority of the past year, there’s something so appealing about
simple grilled chicken/ salmon and veggies. our favorite dinners.
…and give me all of the roasted brussels sprouts!
sunday selfie on the way too church
(and being too lazy to put contacts in)
there are so many darling shops lining every street here.
i feel like i can never explore them all while we live here!
this store full of ALL white everything dishes was a favorite.
lots of staying inside watching the snow + dark sea salt
caramel truffles for me, please and thank you!
another recent obsession. caprese every night of the
week, and whole wheat spaghetti with extra extra parm
found one of my new favorite little markets near us ^^
everything, from homemade pasta – to nuts – to cereal –
is in clear tubes lining the walls. it’s so appetizing!
chase came home so tired from a business trip
to london for the day. he left at 6 AM and got home
at 7 PM! good thing i had some food waiting for him :)
speaking of pasta … this wooden spoon sums up my feelings toward it.
the city by early morning and by late night.
always sparkling and pretty.
YAY for finding a fro-yo place here!
(with the freezing temps to go with it)
my last flight had a special on amsterdam playing,
then i landed here and smiled so big that we live here! ^^
bike shops + bread bakeries can be found on every corner of the city.
dutch food gets a bad rap, but i’m loving it!
i smiled at this window on a building where i had a meeting
last week. i love a good window of opportunity! ^^
couldn’t quite get over this car, or its view!
chocolate soufflé in mini yellow le creuset dishes = my dream.
what do i do if i want every single one of these bags? ^^^
this city makes me so ready for SPRING!
^^ although the wintery sunsets aren’t so bad…
^^ been getting our workouts in with all the stairs in our apartment!
me every single time i cook here = i keep needing
to look up my recipes and change from F to celsius!
holland = where it’s very normal to bike to work in freezing temps :)a few different times i’ve heard a horse clopping along our
street and peeked out the window to see this ^^ magic!
and, more magic ^^
what do you know? even more magic ^^
cutie who i get to have dinner with every night ^^
this sums it up pretty well … first real winter i’ve lived through in a few years!
this picture has the worst lighting and it’s at hard rock cafe haha,
but we love our new friend alan. he has shown us so much here!
we’re planning a few weekend getaways to take advantage
of living so close to so many places this spring!
getting settled in = more time to facetime and catch up
with loved ones. we love lydia’s darling little smile! i follow this “frenchwords” accounts on
instagram and thought this quote was perfect:
i’d say this has been a pretty charming
new beginning here in amsterdam!
and last but not least .. one major aspect of life lately ^^
has been staying home, cozying up from the cold weather, &
relaxing after months and months on the road! nothing better.
congrats if you made it through the millions of photos!
